ABOUT US

Finding Faith & Community Together

Church at the Crossing is a church in Dothan, Alabama, where people from every background can grow in their faith and take their next step with Jesus.  Whether you are exploring faith for the first time or looking for a church to call home, there is a place for you here.

VISION

CORE VALUES

"We exist to participate in moments of grace."

We exist to participate in moments of grace by meeting people where they are and helping them experience the life-changing grace of Jesus.

We want to help people find community, grow in their faith, serve others, and live it out every day.
Pray Always
Prayer aligns our hearts with God and changes everything.

Purpose Over Preference

Purpose matters more than our preference. It's not about us. When we keep the focus on Jesus, lives are changed.

Tables Over Platforms

We would rather sit at tables than perform on platforms.  Real life change happens through relationships, conversation, and community.
Room For More
There is always room for more people to experience the grace of God.

Leave A Legacy

We make decisions today with future generations in mind. Legacy matters.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We don’t claim to have everything figured out.

We don’t claim to have everything figured out, but we are clear about the beliefs at the heart of our faith. These truths shape who we are, how we follow Jesus, and how we live together in community.

The Bible

God

Jesus

We believe the Bible is inspired by God, trustworthy in all it teaches, and our final authority for what we believe and how we live.

2 Timothy 3:16–17; 2 Peter 1:20–21

Humanity & Sin

We believe every person is created in the image of God, but sin has separated us from Him. We cannot rescue ourselves; we need the grace and forgiveness found in Jesus.

Genesis 1:26–27; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12
We believe there is one God who exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each is fully God, coequal and eternal.

Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14

Salvation

We believe salvation is a gift from God. We are forgiven and made right with Him by grace through faith in Jesus—not through our own effort or good works.

Ephesians 2:8–9; Romans 10:9–10
We believe Jesus is fully God and fully human. He was born of a virgin, lived without sin, died on the cross for our sins, rose from the dead, and will return again.

John 1:14; Colossians 2:9; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4

Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit lives within believers, helps us become more like Jesus, and empowers us with spiritual gifts to serve others and share the good news.

John 14:16–17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 12:4–7

More of What We Believe

The Church
We believe the Church is the body of Jesus, made up of all who place their faith in Him. Together, we worship, grow, serve, and participate in His mission in the world.

Ephesians 1:22–23; Matthew 28:19–20
Baptism & Communion
We believe water baptism is a public expression of faith in Jesus. We receive Communion together to remember His sacrifice and celebrate what He has done for us.

Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26
Marriage
We believe marriage is a sacred covenant established by God between one man and one woman.

Matthew 19:4–6
Healing & Wholeness
We believe God still heals and restores. We are invited to pray in faith and seek His work in every area of our lives while trusting His wisdom and care.

James 5:14–16; 1 Corinthians 12:9
Eternity
We believe Jesus will return, every person will be raised and judged, and those who place their faith in Him will live with God forever.

John 3:16; Acts 1:11; Revelation 21:1–4
Unity in the Non-Essentials
Christians may reach different conclusions on issues that are not central to the gospel. In those areas, we choose humility, grace, and unity rather than allowing our differences to divide us.

Romans 14:1–4, 13

MEET JOHN & BRANDY

Leading With a Heart for People

John and Brandy Dowdey have helped shape Church at the Crossing with a shared desire to see people experience the grace of Jesus, find meaningful community, and take their next step in faith.

John serves as Lead Pastor, providing vision, leadership, and biblical teaching for the church. Brandy serves as Staff Care Pastor, supporting and encouraging the staff and helping care for the people who make ministry possible.

Together, their leadership reflects the heart that has shaped CATC from the beginning: loving people well, building authentic community, and making room for more.

OUR STORY

From a Living Room to the Wiregrass

Church at the Crossing officially launched in February 2009 with a vision to help people take their next steps in faith. As the 88th church planted through the Association of Related Churches, CATC began with a small group gathering in the home of one of its founding members.

As the church grew, Sundays moved through several temporary locations around Dothan, including AMC 6 and FunZone. Each move required plenty of setting up and tearing down, but the heart of the church remained the same: creating authentic community, sharing the hope of Jesus, and serving the Wiregrass.

Today, CATC gathers at Dothan High School and owns property on Westgate Parkway that will become its future permanent home. While the locations have changed, the mission continues—and our story is still being written.
